CYBERCRIME AND LEGAL CHALLENGES IN THE DIGITAL ERA
Abstract
Abstract: The blistering development of information technology, internet connectivity and digital communications has changed the contemporary society and provided new opportunities in economic and social progress. Nonetheless, the emergence of cybercrime has also come as a result of these developments and has proven to be a major threat to people, companies, and the government. Cybercrime involves unauthorized access to computer systems, identity theft, financial fraud, cyber terrorism, data breach and online harassment. The rising nature of cyber threats poses great legal and regulatory problems. This paper discusses what cybercrime is and its different forms, the legal structure of fighting cyber crimes and the difficulty of the legal systems in the digital age. This paper concludes that cybercrime can be dealt with by enforcing good cyber laws, cooperating internationally, developing new technology, and educating people on cybersecurity.
