Abstract

Abstract - Renewable energy has become a cornerstone of sustainable development in the 21st century as countries seek environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuels. The increasing demand for energy, combined with concerns over climate change, pollution, and resource depletion, has accelerated the adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, and geothermal energy. These sources are naturally replenished and produce significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional energy systems. Renewable energy contributes to economic growth by creating employment opportunities, improving energy security, and promoting technological innovation. It also supports social development by providing clean and affordable energy, particularly in rural and remote areas where access to electricity is limited. However, challenges such as high initial investment costs, technological limitations, energy storage issues, and policy barriers continue to affect large-scale implementation. Governments, international organizations, and private sectors play a vital role in promoting renewable energy through investments, research, supportive policies, and public awareness programs. This paper examines the concept of renewable energy, different renewable energy sources, their importance, benefits, challenges, government initiatives, and their contribution to achieving sustainable development. The study concludes that renewable energy is essential for ensuring environmental protection, economic prosperity, and social well-being for present and future generations.
