THE ROLE OF ENGLISH IN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION
Abstract
Abstract - English has become the most widely used language for international communication in the twenty-first century. It serves as a common medium of interaction among people from different linguistic, cultural, and national backgrounds. The widespread use of English has been driven by globalization, international trade, technological advancements, scientific research, higher education, diplomacy, tourism, and digital communication. As a global lingua franca, English facilitates cross-border collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cultural exchange. It is the primary language of international organizations, multinational corporations, academic publishing, aviation, and the internet. Despite its many advantages, the growing dominance of English has also raised concerns regarding linguistic inequality, cultural identity, and the preservation of indigenous languages. This paper examines the role of English in international communication, its historical development, major applications, benefits, challenges, and future prospects.
