Abstract

Abstract - Power electronics has become one of the most significant fields in electrical engineering, enabling efficient conversion, control, and conditioning of electrical energy for numerous industrial, commercial, and residential applications. Recent advances in semiconductor materials, converter topologies, digital control techniques, and intelligent power management have significantly improved the efficiency, reliability, power density, and performance of power electronic systems. Emerging technologies such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor devices, multilevel converters, wide-bandgap power devices, soft-switching techniques, modular converter architectures, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based control are revolutionizing modern power conversion systems. These advancements have accelerated the development of renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, smart grids, industrial automation, aerospace applications, and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission. This paper discusses the concepts, recent technological developments, converter types, applications, advantages, challenges, and future trends in power electronics and converter technologies.

Keywords: Power Electronics, Power Converters, Silicon Carbide (SiC), Gallium Nitride (GaN), Multilevel Converter, DC-DC Converter, Inverter, HVDC, Smart Grid, Renewable Energy.
