Abstract

Abstract - The increasing global demand for clean and sustainable energy has accelerated the integration of renewable energy sources into modern electrical power systems. Renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal power play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing energy security, and promoting sustainable development. However, the intermittent and decentralized nature of renewable energy generation presents significant challenges to conventional power grids. Smart grids have emerged as an advanced solution that combines digital communication, automation, advanced monitoring, and intelligent control systems to efficiently integrate renewable energy resources into electricity networks. Smart grids enable real-time monitoring, bidirectional power flow, distributed generation management, demand response, and energy storage integration, thereby improving grid reliability, stability, and operational efficiency. This paper discusses the concept of renewable energy integration into smart grids, key technologies, benefits, challenges, applications, future trends, and strategies for achieving a sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure.
